Northville

The Hamlet of Northville, formerly known as Sound Avenue and Success Post Office, was the first and only incorporated village in Riverhead Township for a brief period of time and was a productive farming community.

Southolder William Wells (the first white landowner) purchased the land in Northville from the Indians in the late 1600s. Wells never lived there, but his grandson, Daniel Wells did. In 1724, Daniel set up a homestead along Sound Avenue, other farmers then followed.

On December 3, 1921, Sound Avenue, known today as Northville, held its first village election. This form of government only lasted for seven years as the village was dissolved in 1930 due to unanticipated village expenses. However, in the 1927 election, the voters did change the name of the village to Northville.
